Make it Monday #61 Papertrey Ink

I have never entered a Papertrey Ink (PTI) challenge. But since so many bloggers seem to, I thought I am a PTI fan, I will give it a go. This week's MAKE IT MONDAY was to use a die to make a flower.

here's what my friend Kristen and I came up with after much brainstorming:

It is made with the butterfly die from happy trails.

Now while trying to take the pictures for the blog, my daughter Anya insisted on being in the picture...

She is my masterpiece.

This challenge was tricky. Maybe should have tried the glitter button challenge first! HA!

Chunyuan's Challenge: Rock and Roll

You know, putting that little bling on a card is a lot harder than it looks. I think I moved them around a million times till I thought they looked visually pleasing. Chunyuan Wu does bling very well, knows just where to put things. Speaking of Chunyuan, she has a challenge out and since I am a fan of her work, I thought I would enter. The challenge is to make a card using the ROCK AND ROLL technique. I used it on the border of the card. I have never tried it before and like it! 

This little blog keeps teaching me things! Love that!!

Runway Inspired Challenge #9

 My favorite challenge has a spectacular inspiration, what else is new? and the design team cards? Fo-getta-bout-it!! I am excited to share my card today. Last weekend, I stared and stared at the inspiration for RIC and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.








Kristina Werner made a card using a technique that looked very similar to the challenge dress. I googled it to watch it again. You can see the video of her making the card here.

 

 I am quite pleased with it. Hope you are too. The sentiment is a rub on in case you are wondering :)

CAS-ual Fridays #47

Ok, normally I would leave you all alone on a holiday, but I made this card for the CAS-ual Friday Challenge (where the goal was to make a card with something found in your Easter basket) for this week and it is so timely, that I am going to post it today.

Here's what I was thinking...It is so complex I needed to explain (I say sarcastically).

1. I need a bunny, a chocolate bunny stamp or rub on...SOMETHING. And well, I don't have any,
 so it was off the the internet I went. I found a cute image and cut it out with chocolate brown cardstock.

2. I had this little sentiment in my head and no stamp. So, Karen Baker if you read this...I need this stamp!! I ended up writing it best I could.

3. Ink is a struggle for me. The local stores always sell dried out ink and it makes my cards look sloppy. I asked some experts who came up with Amuse or Impress inks. Made my first purchase with Impress (thank you Cristina) and gave it a go. I was happy with them!!!

Young Crafters Unite: Sewing and Stitching

Young Crafters Unite has a challenge to make a project using stitching. I made this scrapbook page a while ago and thought I would use it as an inspiration for a card.



The weird thing is that I love "random cluster" (that's what I call it) on my scrapbook pages and I think I do that fine, but darn if I can't figure it out in a card.So my card is a bit simpler.

Supplies: stamps Hero Arts, Stampin Up, Stella and Rose Girly Stamp set. (the pretties doilies EVER), stampin Up heart punch

I know what you are thinking if you have been viewing my cards. There is no theme, no specific style. Well let me tell you, my wise friend Angela said to me one day, "DON'T BOX YOURSELF INTO ONE CATAGORY, BECAUSE YOU MAY FIND YOU MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND." I am glad she did. I like so many styles, as I do music, and art, and clothes, it is hard to stay in one specific style. Plus, I work in Family Practice where you have to know a little about every disease, so that's how I work. At least you will be surprised by every post ;)

And one day, maybe my friend and silent follower, Angela will leave a comment...just sayin'

Moxi Fab World: Scraps Challenge

Moxi Fab World wants us to use our leftovers...no problem because when I make projects, I usually don't just punch one heart, I punch 20. I tend to save everything because "it can be useful later". I have a little Tupperware container for die cut extra's and a whole bin for paper scraps. So I went hunting for a little of this and a little of that, like collecting ingredients for a meal. Well...




This is my attempt at a random cluster card, my FAILED attempt at a random cluster card.

Supplies: PTI, stampin up heart punch and scallop square punch

My brain does not do random well. If this was a meal, it would be a casserole. But I used my scraps, so I think it was a success overall! That strip of patterned paper is a salvage from this project. The heart was a salvage from this project. 

Also, thank you and welcome to some new followers who pick up on my humor and think my cards are pretty good too!! I had a problem with the posts not sending via email lately, but I think it got fixed and you all are getting my posts once again.

Moxi Fab World: DIY Embellishments

I can't sleep. this happens sometimes and I just ride the wave till it's over. I thought I would use my insomnia productively and make a post. If this doesn't make sense, you know why.

Moxi Fab World has a challenge that is dear to my heart. Here's why:

When I was growing up, my parents didn't have a lot of money to buy us the latest trends and such. Whenever we would go shopping and I wanted something, my mother would take one look at it, declare "YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY THAT, I CAN MAKE IT" and with that statement my beloved item (don't remember any of them now) would go back on the rack. Now did she ever make any of the items? Nope. But the idea brings me to the challenge.

I regularly peruse my local scrappy establishments with all their baubles and trinkets and wouldn't you know it, my mother's words come sailing into my head? So, I gave it a go. Here is my card with my very own hand made embellishment.

My Mamma would be proud!

Beachorado Style for the Holes in Your Home

I wanted to follow up on a subject I started to address on my facebook page. Some newer homes now have  holes in the wall for TV's, art work etc. This makes for a difficult search for "just the right piece" of furniture. We moved into our home in the summer of 2011 and below you can see just such a hole. I don't know what the fancy word for it is...sorry.



Since this house cost lots of money in changing carpet and putting down hardwood floors, I thought I would save a few dollars and come up with a creative way to prop up our TV, which by the way, doesn't entirely fit in the hole.

I decided to get some books and slip cover them with scrapbook paper. The papers come in beautiful patterns. I had plenty of it and after getting some books from friends, it was going to cost me NOTHING. So I was really, really excited...until I tried to put the TV on top.

can anyone say weeble-wobble? And with 4 kids under the age of 8, not such a smart idea.

So I went to my local furniture establishments prepared to explain my BEACHORADO style in hopes of finding just the right thing, LOOK what I found! It looks just like my book idea but in a sturdy trunk. It was a bit small and cost more than nothing, but after putting some of the books on either side, I think it came out very nice!
